An update on Walter
12.11.09

A quick update on our friend Walter the Wombat.

Walter now has his own website. The book is in production and updates to the website are just around the corner.
If you would like to support the project or would like further information please contact us.

We are on track with the artwork for the book, and the Media Kit will be out and about by the end of the week, and then the task of gaining sponsorship, media partners and publishing help. A sneak peak on a few more illustrations by Courtney. The web site will be up and running in the coming weeks with further information about the project.

We are currently in the early stages of our Children’s Book. Walter a grumpy old Wombat. With all proceeds going to the Victorian bush fire affected areas.

With the art direction and design taken care of by us, a lot of help has come from our good friends. The story was penned by linguist Davin Sgargetta from Raconteur Media. The story will be set before a unique interpretation of Australia’s rich native bushland and animals, illustrated by Courtney Kim, who has been working tirelessly on some fantastic watercolour illustrations. Which will also incorporate a clay model created by Dan Jones in Japan. We are still in the early stages of the project but here are a few pics to keep you in the loop. More to come.

Please contact us if you are interested in becoming a sponsor for the project.

 Exhibition Booklets

There are still exhibition booklets available for purchase on the Story of a Secret State website. If you don’t already know, it is a story told through 27 individual pieces of visual, contemporary artwork. Seeking to illustrate the horrendous human rights violations taking place in North Korean.
The exhibition is being organised by volunteers, artists and individuals who are passionate about providing their personal expressions and insight into this subject matter. In order for this event to become a success, additional interest and support would be much appreciated.
We were a proud sponsor of the event which will also see the exhibition take place in South Korea, China, Indonesia and the USA.

More Musettes
05.26.10

 Musette

Hello there dear reader,
Well our musettes , yes those reversible ones, with the pleasant message on the inside and our inconvenient CC & Co paraphernalia on the outside.
We have a surplus of them, so we decided to set up an online store via BigCartel

All of the screen printing was done by our friends at All of the Above in Fitzroy and the graphic design , cutting and sewing was done by us.  A lot of blood, sweat and tears!

Ultimately, this glorified piece of fabric isn’t going to solve global warming or make your life any better, its just another inconvenient bag, albeit a very nice looking one.

Songs

C.J Dennis

Sentimental Bloke

Looking through my Dad’s book collection I stumbled across The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke which was first published in 1915. By Australian novelist and poet C.J Dennis with fantastic illustrations by Harold Frederick Neville Gye who was also a writer.
This edition is a reprint from 1957 in the same size and style as the first edition and a great piece of craftsmanship.
Having looked further into the work of C.J Dennis it is said that he produced well over 4,000 pieces of prose and poetry during his 40 year career, quite a feat for any writer.

March Tunes

The month of March was a hectic one, a selection of great projects to work on, but the dreaded move out of our Cambridge St Studio was a task we really didn’t want to have to do.
The soundtrack for the month was the debut album from the Broken Bells. A collaboration between the always impressive Danger Mouse and The Shins front-man James Mercer. If you haven’t heard it its a must!

To our surprise there have been a few feedback postcards in the mail from the late Christmas gift we mailed out. Everyone seems to be after a fake ID or moustache.
And no, we are not that conceded, the special card WAS sent to us.
We really appreciate the kind phone calls and emails of thanks.

Another Inconvenient Bag
01.11.10

 Another Inconvenient Bag

Another Christmas has passed us by, and as the last of the leftovers are eaten and the final receipts dug out from discarded shopping bags for the remaining returns, we’re reflecting on yet another big year at CC & Co.

We worked around the clock in 2009, in what was a very productive year. Like Santa’s workshop, the workload was heavy, and as the year drew to a close, we were never going to let this stand in our way of creating and delivering the Christmas cheer that CC & Co. has become renowned for.

 Another Inconvenient Bag

Time was of the essence, and as there were enough Christmas cards and emails zooming around to all our friends and clients to satisfy that need, we wanted to offer something extra special.

The two things that we wanted the CC & Co. Christmas gift to be were functional with a humorous angle. We also wanted to offer a gift that we created from concept through to the final product.

 Another Inconvenient Bag

 Another Inconvenient Bag

We thought long and hard into many a night in the build up. Last minute decisions were made, brainstorming sessions were had and plenty of quality coffee consumed — here’s what we decided:

We warmed feet at Christmas last year, and we wondered what it was that people really wanted at this time of year. Christmas is a time of gathering, for getting close to those around you. By season’s end though, how many of us feel that others are too close — crowding, surrounding, swarming, suffocating?

We decided to give people some space: nine hundred and eighty square centimetres of the stuff, in the form of a handy musette.

 Another Inconvenient Bag

Every one of the bags was created in our Cambridge Street studio, so if the sewing is a little bit off then the blame is on us. A lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed during the process — it was all worth it. The fine screen-printing was done by Elliot and the team down at All of the Above who did a fantastic job. They were, and we were, ecstatic with the end result.

We still have several bags left for sale so let us know if you’re interested in one.

November Tunes
12.01.09

Emerald, Sapphire and Gold

Whilst having our afternoon cafe break, down at our favourite caffeine dealership, some cool tunes were playing in the background. So I had to ask, ” post punk, disco, their music has been heavily sampled by everyone! was the reply from the friendly barrister. “But who?” was my rapid reply ” I must know!” “ESG from the early eighties”.
So Emerald, Sapphire and Gold has been on high rotation in the studio for the month of November.
